A teenage girl has recurring nightmares of a tower collapse in the 1960s. She discovers that these nightmares are a premonition she inherited from her grandmother. The grandmother predicted the collapse of the building and saved a group of people from death. Decades later, the granddaughter begins to have visions of her family members dying. She realizes that there is a sequence and must fight to prevent Death from reclaiming her family’s bloodline.

Review

First of all, this film was finally released after a 14-year wait. It tells the story of a family cursed by Death itself.

The main character, Stefani, begins to have visions of a woman named Iris from the past—who turns out to be her grandmother. These visions only appear when Stefani is asleep, meaning they come through her dreams, and they eventually start to disrupt her life—her college studies, her grades, even her relationship with her roommate.

Eventually, Stefani decides to return home to find out where her grandmother is, hoping to ask her about these dreams. However, her family refuses to let her meet her grandmother. Through her persistence, she finally obtains her grandmother’s address.

When she finally meets her, Stefani learns the reason why her family didn’t want her to have any contact with her grandmother. But from that moment on, Death begins to target her family.

This film finally reveals why people in the previous films were marked by Death—from the very first film all the way to the fifth. There are plenty of easter eggs from earlier installments scattered throughout this movie, as well as the signature creative death sequences that the franchise is known for.

Enhanced by more advanced CGI, the deaths in this film appear far more realistic compared to the previous movies.

One notable difference in this film is that, unlike in previous installments where most of the victims were friends or strangers, the victims here are members of one family. The story explores how they try to escape death, eventually uncovering information from John Bludworth—played by Tony Todd—whom many fans, like myself, believe to be a manifestation of Death itself.

This film is definitely recommended for anyone who has followed the Final Destination franchise.

For those who haven’t watched the earlier films, it’s highly recommended to start from the beginning, as this latest installment is closely tied to previous entries. Watching this one first may leave new viewers confused about what’s going on.

You can watch it on your nearby theather, or maybe wait for it to show up in your favorite streaming services.
